被称呼为欲望的这个能量,好几世纪以来一直被受谴责。几乎所有所谓的圣人都在反对它,因为欲望即是生命,而他们全都在反对生命。欲望是你眼前所见一切事物的根源,但他们极力反对这一切,他们牺牲这一切,他们反而教导人们去追求那看不见的,他们想要砍断欲望之根,好让生命变得不可能。

The energy called desire has been condemned for centuries.Almost all the so-called saints have been against it, because desire is lifeand they were all life-negative. Desire is the very source of all that you see,and they were against all that which is visible. They wanted to sacrifice thevisible at the feet of the invisible; they wanted to cut the roots of desire sothere would no longer be any possibility of life. 

自古以来,想要彻底自杀的巨大冲动一直都掌控着人类。

A tremendously great urge tocommit total suicide has dominated humanity down the ages.

我对欲望有着完全不同的观点。首先,欲望本身就是神。没有任何目标的欲望,不以目标为导向的欲望,没有动机的欲望,纯粹的欲望,就是神。被称为欲望的能量跟神是同一股能量。

I have a totally different concept of desire. Firstly, desireitself is god. Desire without any object, desire without being goal-oriented,desire  unmotivated, pure desire, is god. The energy called desire is thesame energy as god.

不需要摧毁欲望,只需要将其纯化。不需要放下欲望,只需要将其蜕变。你的存有本身就是欲望;反对欲望就是反对你自己,就是反对一切。反对欲望,就是反对花朵、鸟虫,太阳、月亮。反对欲望就是反对一切创造力。欲望就是创造力。

Desire has not to be destroyed, it has to be purified. Desirehas not to be dropped, it has to be transformed. Your very being is desire; tobe against it is to be against yourself and to be against all. To be against itis to be against the flowers and the birds and the sun and the moon. To beagainst it is against all creativity. Desire is creativity.

The Eastern scriptures are perfectly right when they say thatGod created the world because a great desire arose in him - a desire to create,a desire to manifest, a desire to be many from one, a desire to expand. Butthese are only metaphors; God is not separate from desire. Desire means alonging, a great longing, to expand, to become huge, to be enormous - as hugeas the sky.

Just watch people, watch desires, and you will understand what Imean. Even in your ordinary desires, this basic thing is present. In fact whatthe man who wants to have more and more money really wants is not money butexpansion, because money can help you expand. You can have a bigger house, youcan have a bigger garden, you can have this, you can have that - your territorywill be bigger, your freedom will be bigger. With more money you will have morealternatives to choose from.

追逐金钱的人或许不知道他为什么会追逐金钱。他或许认为和相信自己爱钱,但那个只是他意识的表面而已。深入进他的无意识,帮助他静心,你就会惊讶,他也会惊讶的发现,对金钱的欲望其实不是对金钱的欲望,而是想要扩展的欲望。

The man who is after money may not know why he is after themoney. He may himself think and believe that he loves money, but that is onlyon the surface of his consciousness. Go deeper into his unconscious, help himto meditate, and you will be surprised and he will be surprised to find thatthe desire for money is not really desire for money, it is the desire to expand.

其他的欲望也是一样。人们想要掌握更多的权利、更响亮的名声、更长寿的生活、更健康,他们在这些不同的东西上到底真正在渴求什么?他们渴求的东西其实完全一样——他们渴求更多。他们不想被受限、不想被局限:被受限制的感觉让人们觉得受到伤害,因为你觉得自己就好像是一件物品、商品和一个东西。你因为种种的限制而深感受伤,就好像被关在监狱里一样。

And the same is the case with all otherdesires. Men want more power, more fame, longer life, better health, but whatare they desiring in these different things? The same, exactly the same: theywant to be more. They don't want to remain confined, they don't want to belimited. It hurts to feel that you are definable, because if you are definablethen you are just an object, a thing, a commodity. It hurts that you havelimitations, because to have limitations means to be imprisoned.

But all these objects of desire, sooner orlater, disappoint. Money becomes possible one day, and yet expansion has nothappened; you may have a little more freedom of choice, but that does notsatisfy. The desire was for the infinite, and money cannot purchase theinfinite. Yes, you have more power, you are more well-known, but that doesn'treally matter in the long run. Millions of people have lived on this earth andwere very famous, and now nobody even knows their names. Everything hasdisappeared into dust -- dust into dust, not even traces are left. Where isAlexander the Great? What is he? Would you like to be a dead Alexander theGreat or an alive beggar? Ask yourself, and your being will say it is better tobe alive and be a beggar than to be dead and be an Alexander.

如果你仔细地观察,你将会发现,不管是金钱、权力、权势,它们都无法令你满足;相反地,它们会令你更不满足。为什么?因为当你很贫穷之时,你总是有个希望,你总认为等到有一天你有足够多的金钱之后,你就可以真正地安定下来,好好安心享受、放松地过日子。然后你果真拥有很多钱,可是却一点也不惬意、放松,你反而比以前更容易焦虑、更紧张。

If you watch carefully, money, power,prestige -- nothing satisfies. On the contrary, they make you morediscontented. Why? -- because when you were poor there was a hope that one daythe money was going to happen and all would be settled and settled forever, andthen you would relax and enjoy. Now that has happened, and there seems to be nosign of any relaxation. In fact, you are more tense than before, you are moreanxiety-ridden than before.

金钱带给你一些祝福,却也同时带给你很多诅咒。你现在拥有一间更大的房子,但却缺少了宁静,你银行的存款变的更多,但你却感到愈多的心神不宁、焦躁不安、焦虑和疯狂不智。金钱带给你一些好东西,但随之而来的一切却根本一点都不好。因此,如果你整体性地回顾一下,你会发觉这一切都白费了气力,而且你现在连贫穷之人所拥有的希望也都没有了。

Money has brought a few blessings, but inthe same measure it has brought many curses too. You can have a bigger house,but now you will have less peace. You can have a bigger bank balance, but you will also have a bigger madness, anxiety, neurosis, psychosis. Money hasbrought a few things which are good; in the wake of it many other things havearrived which are not good at all. And if you look at the whole thing, thewhole effort has been a sheer wastage. And now you cannot have even the hopethat the poor man can have. 

富有之人于是变得很绝望,他知道金钱将会不断地增加,但却没有任何希望——只有死亡,也只剩下死亡。他已尝遍一切经验,现在任何东西对他来说都已索然无兴味。他好像活在死亡之中,因为他不知道他还有什么方法可以实现他那股想要扩张的渴望。

The rich man becomes hopeless. He knows nowthe money will go on increasing and nothing is going to happen -- just death,only death. He has tasted all kinds of things; now he only feels atastelessness. A kind of death has already happened, because he cannot conceiveof how to fulfill that desire for expansion.

欲望本身并没有错。错的是欲望的目标和对象——金钱、权力、权势等,这点你们要分辨清楚,欲望本身不会因为目标设定错误而错误。你拥有一把剑,用这把剑杀死人,但剑本身并没有错,因为你也同样可以用这把剑解救某人。毒药可以害人、毒药也可以成良药。会用的人,毒液就是花蜜,不会用药的人,花蜜就是毒液。

But desire in itself is not wrong. Thedesire for money, the desire for power, the desire for prestige, are wrongobjects for desire -- let it be very clear. By having wrong objects of desire,desire itself does not become wrong. You can have a sword and you can killsomebody -- that does not make the sword something wrong. You can also savesomebody with the same sword. Poison can kill and poison can become medicinetoo. In the right hands, poison is nectar; in the wrong hands, nectar ispoison. 

这就是几千年来,所有成道者的智慧洞见。牧师所教导人们的是另一回事,佛陀的教化则是全然不同的现象,它们是完全相反。

This is the essential wisdom of all thebuddhas of all  thousands ofthe ages. What the priests say is one thing; what the buddhashave brought to the world is totally different, it is diametrically opposite.

「欲望」是你唯一的一个能量,你所需要做的就是纯化它、蜕变它。然而,要如何蜕变欲望呢?——第一种方式,也是最普通、平常的方法是改变欲求的目标。

不要追求金钱,一开始就寻求神。现在你对金钱深感挫折,于是你开始欲求另一个新的目标——「神」,它不仅和金钱同样虚幻,它甚至比金钱更虚幻,因为,你对神有怎样的了解?对你来说,金钱至少看得见,摸得到,你知道什么是金钱,你见过它。但你对神有怎么样的了解呢?你只听过神这个字,但除非你真有切身的体验,否则神就只是个字。除非你亲身体验,除非你有很实在的经验,否则「神」只是个空泛的字。

Desire has to be purified and transformed,because it is your energy -- you don't have any other energy. How to transformdesire? One way, the ordinary way, the mediocre way, is to change the object.Don't go after money, start going after God. You are frustrated with money --become religious, go to the church, to the temple, to the mosque. Let yourdesire have a new object called God, which is as illusory as the object calledmoney, even more illusory, because what do you know about God? Money at leastis something visible, objective; you have known it, you have seen it. What doyou know of God? You have only heard the word. God remains a word unlessexperienced. God remains an empty word unless you pour some content into itthrough your own existential experience.

人们通常在对世俗的欲望感到厌烦、挫折后,开始转变他们追求的目标,他们开始追寻超凡脱俗的目标——天堂、乐园和一切属于天堂的喜乐。但这是同样的把戏,头脑又在愚弄你。而这不是真知灼见之人的方式,是愚昧之人的方式。

People, when they are frustrated withworldly desires, start changing the object: they start making otherworldlyobjects of desire -- heaven, paradise, and all the joys of heaven. But it isthe same trick, the mind is again befooling you. This is not the way of theintelligent person, this is the way of the stupid.

什么是真知灼见?它意味着你已经洞识到任何目标都无法满足你的欲望。金钱在此可以很断言地向你们说,这世上绝不可能有任何东西可以满足你们的欲望。欲望是神圣的。欲望就有如天空般地浩瀚,甚至天空都不能与它比拟,任何东西都满足不了它。

What is intelligence? Intelligence means the insightthat no object can fulfill your desire. No object, I say, and I say itcategorically, no object can ever fulfill your desire. Your desire is divine.Your desire is as big as the sky -- even the sky is not a limit to it. 

那我们让怎么办呢?于是,有真知灼见的人将不再追寻任何目标,他让他的欲望变得很纯粹,不管他所欲望的目标是世俗、还是超脱世俗的,他很纯粹地活在每一个当下的欲望中,他充满欲望、充满流动的能量,他对日常工作生活全然地投入、全然地热忱,以至于他所碰触到的任何一切,或他所做的事都会被他蜕变,就如金属会蜕变成黄金,枯木逢春。

No object can fill it. Then what is to be done?The intelligent person stops desiring objects. He makes his desire pure of allobjects -- worldly, otherworldly. He starts living his desire in its purity,moment to moment. He is full of desire, full of overflowing energy. Hisordinary life becomes so intense, so passionate, that whatsoever he toucheswill be transformed. The baser metal will become gold, and the dead tree willcome to bloom again.

带着尽可能多的觉知活过每一个欲望,那么你内在就会有巨大的满足升起。

Live each desire with as much awareness as possible, and you will feel a tremendous contentment arresting in you.

每一个片刻它都在增长——你满足了,你处在此时此地。

Each moment it goes on growing - you fulfilled, here and now.

如果你能够带着满足、觉知、宁静、喜悦活过每一个片刻,那么这个星球就变成天堂,在任何其他地方都不存在天堂.

If you can live each moment with contentment, awareness, silence, joyfulness, this very earth becomes paradise, there is no other paradise anywhere.
