Zongzi (粽子 zòngzi ) is the most traditional Dragon Boat Festival food. It is related to Qu Yuan commemoration, as the legend says that lumps of rice were thrown into the river to stop fish eating his drowned body. They are a kind of sticky rice dumpling made of glutinous rice filled with meats, beans, and other fillings. Zongzi is wrapped in triangle or rectangle shapes in bamboo or reed leaves, and tied with soaked stalks or colorful silky cords. The flavors of zongzi are usually different from one region to another across China.

粽子是端午节最传统的食物。这与纪念屈原有关，传说有人把米块扔进河里，以阻止鱼吃掉他溺死的尸体。粽子是以糯米，加上肉、豆等馅料做成的糯米团，粽子用竹叶或芦苇叶包成三角形或长方形，用浸过水的茎秆或五颜六色的丝线捆扎而成。中国各地的粽子口味通常各不相同。

◆粽子用英语的几种说法：

1.粽子:sticky rice dumplings/rice dumplings,包粽子就是：make rice dumplings .这是比较书面的叫法，现在慢慢大家叫的比较随意，这种官方的叫法用的人也不是很多了。

2.粽子(Traditional Chinese rice-pudding)，这种拼写和发音，更像是以前汉语的英文翻译。类似于现在的“清华大学(Tsinghua University)”。

3.粽子:zongzi,因为中国特有的食物，其实很多词是用直接翻译成英语的，因为文化背景不同。对于现在的中文词汇翻译成英文的，很多都是直接汉语拼音了。例如：饺子(Jiao Zi)，不一定要说是“dumpling”，老外都明白的。还有中国的功夫(Chinese Kongfu)，已经家喻户晓了。一般采用的翻译法就是先说拼音，再用英语简单解释。
