2.ABOUT PH.D. PROGRAM

Highly qualified ful-time students are eligibie for graduate assistantships that include a bi-weekly stipend and tuition waiver.

The Ph.D. in Public Afais offered by the Department Public Policy and Administration prepares students for academic and research careers, as well as senior-level positions in public, nonprofit and internatonal organizations. The degree provides a sound foundation in current research in public administration, policy and management. Doctoral students demonsrate significant resesrch capacity in the discpline through the witing of a dissertation. The program features an "apprentice-style" system of leamning. Small class sizes encourage close interactions between faculty and students and promote peer collaboration. Our facutty is world renowned and currently incudes indviduals who serve in senior editorial positions in the top journals in the discipline as well as leadership positions in professional associatons, such as ABFM, ASPA, and IASIA.

Our Ph.D. student body is representative of the global community. Domestic students hail from all over the United States. Intemaional students come to us from around the world, indluding China, Germany, Gustemala, India, Poland, Romana, Tukey, and Vietnam, among others. Our students have received competitive swards and accolades nationally and internationally, inciuding fellowships from the Fulbrght Program, National Science Foundaton and U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics. Our students have also published, independently or collaboratively, in leading public policy and administration jounals, such as Administration and Society, Governance, Public Administraton Review, and Public Performance and Management Review.

3.APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

The annual Ph.D. application deadline is January 15.

Required application materials are:

-An online application via FIU Graduate Admissions.

-A non-refundable application fee, $30.

-Official transcripts. Transcripts of all degree granting institutions must be sent directly from each college or universty either electronically or in a sealed envelopt to the Gradunte Admissions Office.

-Three letters of recommendation.

-A current resume.

-GRE scores(applicant is expected to have 60 percentile scores in verbal and quantitative sections; FIU's institutional code is 5206)

-A personal statement describing the applicant's background, career goals, and the reasons tor pursuing a Ph.D. in Publc Affairs. 

-At least one writing sample.

-Foreign eppicants must demonstrate English proficiency by presenting a minimum score of a 100 on the TOEFL iBT.
