对话浙江大学公共管理学院院长赵志荣教授

     2021年6月，赵志荣教授受聘担任浙江大学公共管理学院院长。正式加盟浙江大学前，赵志荣曾任职于美国明尼苏达大学汉弗瑞公共事务学院公共和非盈利组织管理的格罗斯家族，专注于公共预算、公共财政和城市治理等领域的研究。

       近日，赵志荣教授接受了学校国合处海外宣传新媒体团队的采访，谈到了他对公共事务未来发展的研究和见解，并分享了给青年学生的建议。

By having brain, we mean analytical skills. By having heart, we mean we should care about public values. We care about collective interests and also many important values that we collectively care about.

Public affairs is a very practical field of study. We need theoretical knowledge. We also need practical capacity. I strongly encourage students to go out into the real world, to investigate, to learn from experiences and to gain capacity there.

 By “大公管”, I mean the broadly defined public affairs, the field of study. It could include multiple subfields like public management, public policy, and urban affairs. Those subfields in some other countries sometimes may be fragmented. But in China, they are highly integrated.

In the past, we had focused quite a bit on traditional infrastructure, like transportation, or like environmental facilities. In recent years, we have expanded into social infrastructure, things including education, human services and public housing. But an exciting new area of development would be digital infrastructure. Many people know that in Hangzhou, China, we are at a frontier of urban digital transformation.
