故事：我在小学毕业的时候，跟爸爸妈妈一起搬家到了老破小初中学区房中。房子很破，我不喜欢，想搬回去，因此跟爸妈说不管在哪里学习，勤奋和坚持最重要。

I would like to talk about the time when I moved to my new home after I graduated from primary school.

 

My new home was in a prime location near the town center. It was sandwiched between several famous universities and large hospitals. Everything was within walking distance, but still, living in this place was very challenging.

 

First it was in a small alleyway no wider than ten meters. If two cars met in the alleyway, one of the cars had to back out of the alleyway to let the other car pass through. It was quite different from the spacious garage in the residential compounds I lived in before. Because of this narrow space, my parents had to leave their car in my father’s company. Second, my new home was also much smaller than my former residence. It was a 2-bedroom flat with four people cramming in.

 

When I asked my parents to move back to our old home, they did not agree, telling me that this is an apartment in the best middle school district in Nanjing.  But I think what matters is not so much a good middle school but diligence and perseverance.

 

素材1：勤奋和坚持Diligence[ˈdɪlɪdʒəns] and perseverance[ˌpɜːsəˈvɪərəns]are the most importantquality for success. Only by being diligent can we solve problems andmake achievements. Perseverance is equally important. We are bound to meet some difficulties andsetbacks. If we give up, we will achieve nothing. But if we persevere with strong willpower, we can achieve success in the end.

1.Why do people move to a new home?

People want to move to a new home for various reasons. Parents want to move to a home in a better school district, so their kid could go to a good primary or middle school. Elderly people move to a home in a quieter environment with fresh air and more greenery. Still some others move because of easy access to all kinds of amenities, close proximity to their workplace, and even vanity especially when the new home is associated with a higher social status.

2.What problems will people face after moving to a new place? How do people solve these problems?

Moving to a new place may present a set of particularly thorny issues. First, adapting to a new environment may take a long time. Finding and deciding upon the best grocers, jog routes, and the best way to commute from home to work can take some time. Second, concerns about possible air contamination after interior decoration work can weigh upon people’s mind. I think people can explore the new neighborhood they live in extensively so they can make discoveries about things that can best serve them. They could also air the room more often to reduce indoor air pollution.  

3.What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in the same place?

Living in the same place allows people to maintain their network of relations including their family, neighbors and friends, be familiar with their surroundings, and have enduring and often fond memories about everything. But at the same time, they may miss out on opportunities to meet new people and try new activities. For young people, if they desire to live in the same place, they may lose many opportunities for education and career advancement.   

4.Is it good to move to a new place frequently?

I do not think it is good to move to a new place frequently. Moving and the hassle associated with it such as hiring a mover, loading and unloading can be unbearable. Moving frequently also causes one to lose contact with their familiar supportive system and have to fend for themselves. Moving to a new place frequently even has some negative associations with moonlight flitters.
