Nell doesn't care for shopping.

Nell一点都不喜欢买东西。

“Dad, are we finished yet?”

“爸爸，我们买完了没有？”

She sees a store that looks more fun.

她看到了一个一家商店，这家商店看起来非常有意思。

“Can I go in and pick a pet?“

”我可以到这家店里面去挑选一只宠物吗？”

Dad's not sure.

爸爸可不这么认为。

“Dogs make a mess. And who would clean it up?”

“狗狗会把家里搞得一团糟。到时候谁来打扫干净呢？”

Nell begs and pleads,but dad won't budge.

于是Nell就不停地央求爸爸，可是爸爸就是不同意。

“No, Nell, not a pup.”

“不行，Nell，不可以买小狗。”

“Well, how about a snake?”says Ted.

Ted提议说“养条蛇怎么样？”

“Sid's very friendly, miss.”

“小姑娘，这条蛇叫作Sid,它特别的友好温顺。”

Sid ties himself around Dad's neck.

天哪，Sid用它的身体缠住了爸爸的脖子。

“Pat him. Let him hiss.”

“轻轻地拍一拍它，让他发出滋滋滋的声音就好了。”

A parrot snatches at Dad's cap, and perches on a rack.

一只鹦鹉叼走了爸爸的帽子，然后，落在了一个货架上。

“No need to worry, sir.Ted can get it back.“

”先生，您不用着急。Ted会把您的帽子拿回来的。”Tess说。

Dad helps Ted chase the parrrot.

爸爸只好帮助Ted去追那只鹦鹉。

They just can't jump high enough.

他们总是没有办法蹦那么高。

Ted tries to catch it in a net,

Ted找来一只网，想用网抓住鹦鹉，

Dad and Ted huff and puff.

爸爸和Ted累得气喘吁吁。

Nell sees a bat hang upside down.

Nell看到了一只蝙蝠，它倒挂在笼子里。

It looks so very still, Dad thinks there's something wrong with it.

这只蝙蝠就在那里一动不动，爸爸觉得它有点不对劲。

“Tess, tell us, is it ill?”

“Tess，这只蝙蝠是不是生病了？”

“He's only sleeping, sir,”says Tess.

Tess说：“它只是在睡觉”。

Bats do a lot of that.

蝙蝠呀最喜欢睡觉了。

“I think he's really cute,”says Nell.

Nell说：“我觉得这只蝙蝠很可爱。”

“Dad,Can I get a bat?”

“爸爸，我可以买一只蝙蝠做我的宠物吗？”

Nell counts out all her money, but—“That's not enough,”says Tess.

Nell把她所有的钱都拿了出来数啊数啊，可是，Tess对她说，“你的钱不够。”

Then Ted finds something cheaper.“Look！”

Ted找到了更便宜的宠物，他对Nell说：“快来看！

A bug on a log is less.这只木头上的小虫子比较便宜。

“Is this the pet you want?”asks dad.

爸爸问Nell：“这是你想要的宠物吗？”

Nell nods and smiles,“You bet! That was the greatest shopping trip.”

Nell笑着点点头，说道：“当然了！我觉得这是我最棒的一次购物啦！”

“I had fun and I got a pet.”

”我很开心，而且我还得到了一个宠物。“
